The
first few versions of HandyNotes where called QuickNotes. I wrote
QuickNotes back in 1997 when I got tired of putting random little
text files all over my desktop to store my random thoughts and
notes. My objective with QuickNotes was to make a program that was
very useful but at the same time to keep it small and unobtrusive.
Over time QuickNotes became quite popular, to the point of being
named one of the 50 Best Freebies by CNET's download.com. Shortly
after, however, another company that had trademarked the QuickNotes
name sent me a nice little cease-and-desist letter, and I was forced
to change the name to HandyNotes.
Around 1999 I stopped working on HandyNotes. I was
pretty happy with its current state, and besides the VisualBasic 4
code was getting too ugly to work on. In the past few months,
however, I found that I had some free time and I started thinking of
some cool features that I could add to HandyNotes. I then decided to
completely re-write the whole code using Java, my current favorite
language, and I set to work. I couldn't put too much time on it at
once but, at last, a few months later, the new and improved
HandyNotes is ready for release! |
